Efnoti Neman
“God is with us” — each year around 100 young adults from Austria travel to Egypt, to orphans and to remote villages.
Practical love that crosses borders
The charitable project Efnoti Neman — Coptic for “God is with us” — is close to the heart of this diocese. With the blessing of Pope Tawadros II and Bishop Anba Gabriel, some 100 young adults from the Austrian community travel to Egypt each year, in February and September.
The journey takes them deep into remote villages, into orphanages, and to communities the rest of society tends to forget.
What happens there
On the ground the volunteers work on three things:
Basic schooling for children from families with little access to education.
Teaching about hygiene and the prevention of infection.
A programme of play that gives children dignity and untroubled joy.
Alongside time and attention, donations in kind and financial support are distributed.
How it is paid for
The work starts at home in Advent: donations are collected and Advent calendars are made by hand, with every cent of the proceeds going into the project.
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink.
